The Woburn Youth Hockey Learn-to-Skate Basic level teaches the fundamentals of ice skating and provides a solid foundation for recreational ice skating or hockey. In this program, participants are introduced to forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. These classes are intended for children aged 4 and above who have completed the Woburn Youth Hockey Beginner level program or who have prior skating experience and do not require the use of a skating aid. Upon successful completion of the Basic program, the participants will be ready for the Woburn Youth Hockey Mite City League program.
PLEASE NOTE: CHILDREN WITH NO PRIOR SKATING EXPERIENCE OR WHO REQUIRE THE USE OF A SKATING AID SHOULD REGISTER FOR THE LEARN-TO-SKATE BEGINNER PROGRAM ABOVE.
This program will run for 16 consecutive Saturdays from mid-November through early March (exact dates TBD) at 10:30am. All classes will be well-structured with the focus on proper skill development and taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience.
# of Skaters: Due to the COIVD-19 restrictions on the sport of Ice Hockey, this program has a maximum number of 40 skaters for the 2020 - 2021 season.
Prerequisite: First time participants in Woburn Youth Hockey programs must submit a copy of their birth certificate prior to participation. Completion of the Woburn Youth Hockey Learn-to-Skate Beginner or comparable program. The use of skating aids is not permitted in this program.
Fees: The tuition of $175 for the Learn-to-Skate Basic program must be paid in full prior to the students participation in the program. An invoice will be generated upon registration.
USA Hockey: All participants are required to register with USA Hockey, prior to participating in our program. There is no fee for children under six years old. The USA Hockey cost is not associated with WYH, but covers player insurance while on the ice. To register with USA Hockey please go online to www.usahockeyregistration.com .
NOTE: All players are required to dress in appropriate gear with an HECC approved hockey helmet with full cage, hockey skates and gloves when they are on the ice. Additional protective gear, such as full hockey gear, may be worn if desired by the parents and/or the children.
